Sonar the Crashing by B Truly #bookReview @goddessfish

Is it more than déjà vu? With the Romeland family it may be destined to be true.

Life on Earth is not the only place where devastation occurs and hard choices must be made. The Royal 4 of Kadan live in the Sonar galaxy three million light years from Earth. They travel to Earth to obtain the resources they need to give their world a fighting chance.

Their mission is compromised and they’re faced with life changing events. They have amnesia and no memory of their past. Strange dreams start to occur. They wonder if it’s more than a dream, or is it déjà vu? The mind is a complex mystery. Amnesia is a secret unknown. The role it manifests in these characters’ lives is a catastrophic cyclone.

Shiray is frantic when she is the first to find out about their true destiny and that the love of her life no longer remembers who she is. She must find a way to restore her family before all is lost. They must prevail because the fate of their planet lies in their hand.

My review:

I wasn’t sure from the blurb exactly what this book was about. It ends up that 4 aliens are stranded on Earth and have amnesia. They can survive because their planet is similar to Earth. They have been studying it and harvesting various things for food and to prepare to fight the Polars. It was a decent SciFi story. A bit long and it was hard to follow the multiple POVs which is pet peeve of mine, but for a first book not bad.

Read an excerpt from the book:

Prologue excerpt

As we boarded the ship I told my husband Bryan through my mind I was scared. He kissed my forehead.

“Don’t be scared, Shiray.”

One of my powers was that I could talk to people in their minds, but this was a very common power throughout my people. My other powers were mind-warp, which gave me the ability to make people see things which were not there or cause them pain.

My husband Bryan could start fires. Bryan was six feet one inch in height. He favored his late mother with his facial features, and he had her emerald green eyes. His hair was chestnut brown with red highlights like his father’s. His younger brother Nile had telekinesis which is the ability to move objects with your mind. He could also read minds. Nile was an inch taller than Bryan, but he was more slender in build. He had hazel eyes and light sandy brown hair.

Their sister Syira also had telekinesis, could put up a protective force field, and could enter into people’s dreams. Syira and Nile could pass for twins. Syira and Niles’s facial features resembled their father’s. She also had hazel eyes and light sandy brown hair. Her hair fell several inches past her shoulders. Syira was my best friend, and I felt like we were real sisters.

We were traveling through space, and no one knew the outcome of our journey. I had a bad feeling. We were not far from Earth. I was flying our spacecraft when suddenly the numbers were reading weirdly. I nudged Nile, who was sitting next to me.

“Nile, look at this; the numbers are flying off the grid.”

“What is going on?” he asked as he looked at the numbers. “Get Bryan up here!”

Bryan, come to the cockpit quick! I sent to him. He came rushing in.

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

“Something’s wrong with the system,” Nile said.

“Shiray, I think Syira is asleep. Get her up here,” Bryan said.

Syira, Syira can you hear me? I sent to her.

Yes, what’s wrong Shiray?

We have an emergency. Go down to the boiler room and see if there is a leak or something.

All right, I am going now.

“She is going down to the boiler room to see if there is a leak,” I relayed.

Just then the sirens started going off. “What in the hell is going on?” Nile yelled.

“I don’t know,” I said.

We were all running around pushing buttons. Syira came running in. “It’s going haywire down there; there are sparks flying everywhere. I don’t know what’s happening.”

The ship started making funny noises and rocking.

“Did a Polar sabotage our ship?” Nile asked.

No one answered. I felt my eyes opening wider, and I was scared out of my mind.

“We need to get word back to Kadan,” Bryan said. “Nile, hit the distress button.”

“I don’t know if they will even receive it with the system overload, but I will try.”

“We are not that far from Earth, so we should make it there,” Bryan replied.  A different siren went off, and the ship did a somersault. I tried to take control of the ship, but I couldn’t. The system wasn’t responding. I flipped around and hit my head hard. Everything was blurry. I saw Nile trying to take control of the ship again.

“We are going down! We are going down!” Nile yelled.

“Hit the autopilot, Nile, so we can hit the Earth’s atmosphere and not get lost into space, hurry!” Bryan yelled.

“Bryan, Shiray is hurt! Help her!” Syira screamed.

“Shiray, Sweetheart, are you hurt?” he asked, trying to make his way over to where I was laying on the floor. That was the last thing I remembered. The ship went down into Earth’s atmosphere and our lives were left in fates hand.

In the Sonar series it was fun to explore different elements of Sci-fi romance and create various realms of powers for my characters. I want to show my readers that Sci-fi can be fun, but also traumatic. I hope you guys enjoy the Sonar Series.
