(null)Talented young ballplayer Clay Love has just been called up from the minors to play major league baseball. Freelance writer and divorcée Rose Lasting, the world’s biggest baseball fan, wasn’t expecting to fall in love when she fell into Clay’s arms, but fall in love she did. Now they are caught up in a whirlwind romance complicated by the paparazzi, Clay’s ex-girlfriend, Rose’s ex-husband, and a stalker who puts Rose’s life in grave danger. Saving her life and catching her attacker takes you on a roller coaster of emotion and intrigue that you won’t soon forget.

Rookie Season is the first book in the Love in the Ballpark Series, by V.K. Robbins. This adult erotic romance tale sizzles with romantic and sexual chemistry, emotion, and suspense. Once you start reading, you won’t be able to put it down.

Read an excerpt from the book:
He shared about missing his mother’s last days because he had been out on the road with his AA team, and how he regretted it. I thought about telling him about my grandfather, but I didn’t. I knew I would cry and there was no way I wanted to cry right then. I did tell him, though, about how my dad left when I was six, and I was raised by my mother and her father, my grandfather.

And we talked about baseball – how it was my first love, how he only really felt comfortable and at home out on the field, how I hadn’t missed a Giants home game in 10 years, how excited he was to finally be playing in the majors.

There was a pause again and we were silently looking at each other. I was thinking how comfortable it was just to be quiet with him, how I didn’t feel like I needed to entertain him…when he leaned forward and kissed me.

It was gentle and tentative at first, then it became more aggressive and forceful. My mind went blank for a moment. I leaned toward him and he wrapped his arm around me, pulling me closer. His kiss just pulled me in. Any hesitance I’d had about him evaporated, and I knew I’d never be the same.

An a Interview with V.K. Robbins-

Favorite place in the world?

My favorite place in the world is wherever my family is. That’s usually home, but it could be anywhere. After that, I love Monterey, California. It’s my favorite vacation and meditation spot. I love the ocean and the general artist-friendly environment.

Have you ever Googled yourself?

As a matter of fact, I just did! The first page included my Facebook profile, Goodreads page, Amazon author page, websites, and more. It’s always a good idea to check Google from time to time just to see what others are finding when they Google you.

Morning person or night owl?

I’m definitely a night owl, but I can also work myself into a morning routine. When I do, I tend to get a lot of writing done before the sun comes up. Maybe that’s because I’ve simply fooled my brain into thinking it’s really nighttime. Hmmm… Seriously, I get my most inspired ideas at night. I think the darkness creates the right mood for creativity.

Tell us about your latest book.

Sure! Rookie Season is a romantic suspense novel about a 36-year-old divorcee, Rose Lasting, and a rookie baseball player, Clay Love, about ten years younger. They fall in love quickly, which happens more often than people want to admit, I think. Unfortunately, their relationship gets off to a very rough start as they have to deal with his ex-girlfriend, her ex-husband, the paparazzi and a stalker who threatens Rose’s life. There are several sizzling, erotic chapters that highlight the chemistry between Rose and Clay. Yummy!

Where did the idea for the book come from?

I love baseball. I always have. I wanted to write a steamy love story, so it just seemed to make sense to give it a baseball setting. After all, baseball is a love story between the game and the fans. While you don’t have to know anything about baseball to enjoy the book, I hope that it conveys some of my love for the game.

Who and what inspire you to write?

I find inspiration throughout my life. For example, I’m currently working on a non-fiction series called The Quick Guide to Learning through Video Games, which was inspired by watching my youngest son learn so much about many different academic areas as he played the games he loved. I already mentioned that Rookie Season was inspired by my love for baseball. While it’s romantic to think that we need to go somewhere on a grand adventure to find inspiration, the truth is that inspiration is all around us. We just need to adjust our vision to see it. Besides, what adventure is grander than your own life’s journey? If you don’t think so, then you may need to make some changes.

Do you have any writing rituals?

I wouldn’t say that I have any strict rituals, but I do have some go-to behaviors that can help me when I get stuck. For example, if I’m having trouble getting started with a project (novel, short story, whatever), I start by writing it in long hand. That helps me get the words flowing. Once it’s moving along well, I’ll transition back to the computer. I also think about a piece for quite a while before writing a single word. I need to see it in my mind first; then I can simply describe what I see.

Tell us in one sentence why we should read your book.

Rookie Season is an easy read that will get your blood flowing as you escape into a world of romance, suspense, friendship, and love.

Thank you so much for helping spread the word about Rookie Season. I love chatting about writing and baseball!
