In two thousand years, he had never met a woman whose laughter could light up a dark pub, highlighting her features as everything else, all surroundings and distractions, faded away.
There was something about her that captivated him, enticing him away from all else and lured him toward her. And the more he gazed at her, the more he felt a twinge of something he couldn’t quite describe, an unknown surge that bubbled inside him from the first moment he’d caught sight of her, and it wouldn’t release him.
He didn’t mind watching her work or talk or laugh. No, he didn’t mind guarding her at all.
Her brows drew together seemingly speculating his thoughts. He said exactly what was on his mind.
“I would not mind that at all.”
Her eyes widened, then she looked away from him. She attempted to put some distance between them, but his arm, firmly wrapped around her waist, held her still. He didn’t want to let her go. He wanted to enjoy the warmth of her body against his. It would be a fleeting moment until their stop, but he wouldn’t relinquish her until then.
My review:
I didn’t read the previous two books and I was a bit confused in the first two pages but quickly caught up and began to understand the Elemental story. The Elementals are a new breed of Immortals that are prophesied to win the war against the Malum, and evil sect of fallen angels and demons. Each immortal has a destined mate to help them through their long life. Ashley aka Jade was separated from her sisters at an early age and her mother is believed to be dead. You meet Ashley and Clyde early in the book. The book was very fast paced in the beginning. Ashley and Clyde’s relationship moves very quickly due to Ashley’s former guardian angel, that has now fallen, tries to kill her/force her to bond with him. I am definitely curious now to read the other books now plus the next two to find out what happened to her other sisters. My only critique is that parts of the book in the middle lagged a bit and some of the characters could have been expanded upon more so the book could be a total stand alone. 4 stars from me.
About the author:
J.L. Sheppard was born and raised in Miami, Florida where she still lives with her husband.
As a child, her greatest aspiration was to become a writer. She read often, kept a journal and wrote countless poems. She attended Florida International University and graduated in 2008 with a Bachelors in Communications. During her senior year, she interned at NBC Miami, WTVJ. Following the internship, she was hired and worked in the News Department for three years.
It wasn’t until 2011 that she set her heart and mind into writing her first completed novel, Demon King’s Desire, which was published in January of 2013.
Besides reading and writing, she enjoys traveling and spending quality time with family and friends.
