Ember (Jinn Trilogy Book One) by Liz Schulte

Holden told Olivia it was only a matter of time before Hell came for them. After all, one doesn’t just walk away from the life he lived unscathed, but the longer Hell waited, the more Olivia let down her guard. She believed maybe happily ever after was possible—he knew it wasn’t.
But when Baker shows up beaten and bloody on their doorstep with a message, all hope evaporates. The jinn make Holden an offer he can’t refuse: convince Olivia to free them all and the jinn will fight Hell alongside them. However, if their past has proved anything, it’s that the jinn cannot be trusted. When Olivia starts hearing a voice that no one can identify and Baker isn’t acting like himself, he is forced to make a decision.
With Heaven staying hands off, Holden considers accepting the jinn’s offer behind Olivia’s back. One thing is clear, with their lives and the lives all those they hold dear at stake, something has to be done. If it were as easy as Holden going back to the jinn, he would do it in a heartbeat, but Hell wants more than his soul this time—they want Olivia’s too.

My review:

Well it’s not news that I love Liz Shulte’s writing. I pretty much pimp her anytime I get. She granted my wish and had waaay more Femi in this book. She is my favorite Sehkmet.  The first book in the series Secrets is free on Amazon. You need to read it if you haven’t. You are introduced to Olivia and Holden and their crazy story. I love how Liz writes in MPV (multiple points of view). Most writers annoy me when they do that but Liz is one of the few that knows how to do it right.

After the big bang ending of Consequences , the fate of a lot of the characters were up in the air. This time around it has not been un-noticed by Hell that Holden is a free Jinn. Olivia starts hearing voices and the disconcerting part is that no one can figure out where they are coming from and no one else can hear them either. Baker and Femi are thrown front and center right into the fray. Baker totally rocks in this book. I think I may have more of a book crush on him now than Holden. The best part is that Olivia finds out that Baker has been a HUGE asset this entire time and his looks are deceiving. Femi shows how tough she is and I hope that Liz gives her a novella soon like Baker’s holiday one. I’d love to read how Femi got caught up in bounty hunting and met every one.

In true Liz form there is tons of love, loss and kicking ass. It was an unbelievable start to what I anticipate will be an awesome trilogy. 5 stars from me!

About Author Liz Schulte

Many authors claim to have known their calling from a young age. Liz Schulte, however, didn’t always want to be an author. In fact, she had no clue. Liz wanted to be a veterinarian, then she wanted to be a lawyer, then she wanted to be a criminal profiler. In a valiant effort to keep from becoming Walter Mitty, Liz put pen to paper and began writing her first novel. It was at that moment she realized this is what she was meant to do. As a scribe she could be all of those things and so much more.

When Liz isn’t writing or on social networks she is inflicting movie quotes and trivia on people, reading, traveling, and hanging out with friends and family. Liz is a Midwest girl through and through, though she would be perfectly happy never having to shovel her driveway again. She has a love for all things spooky, supernatural, and snarky. Her favorite authors range from Edgar Allen Poe to Joseph Heller to Jane Austen to Jim Butcher and everything in between.
