The Grinding by Matt Dinniman #bookreview #giveaway

by Matt Dinniman

Genre: Horror

Six months ago, the world watched in horror as we lost an American city.

The Grinder. That’s what the survivors of Tucson called the monster. Just one touch, and they became a part of it. It used their bodies as limbs and as weapons. In just a matter of hours, it became huge, a towering monstrosity made entirely out of tens of thousands of people and animals.

This isn’t behind-the-scenes bulls**t from the point of view of the military. This isn’t yet another conspiracy theory about what really happened to Air Force One that night, or about the decision to nuke Tucson.

This is a rare, eyewitness account from someone who was there, in the midst of the destruction. But most importantly, this is the terrifying truth.

My review:

Ever had a horror story affect you so much that you are still thinking about it long after you finished the book or movie?  The Grinding is one of those. The premise, I admit, is gross. I read the blurb and it completely appealed to me. I like my horror stories/movies gross and gory. Zombies make me laugh out loud. Adam is a fantastic character. I usually prefer Multiple POVs, but in this case, seeing the horror from Adam’s eyes was fantastically chilling. The author took all that is right with horror and put in one book. The villain is a blob. Awesome.  A collective is absorbing people. Fantastic! Add action, a touch of romance and tons of gore – total winner. Not very often anymore can a horror story capture my attention like The Grinding did. Pretty much most of the time I get the “been there, done that” feeling a few pages into the book. Not the case with The Grinding. Matt has definitely grabbed my attention and I will definitely keep him on my radar. 5 stars from me.
