My review (18 and over):
The cover of The Lust Garden is perfect. It captures the essence of Gianna. Intense, gorgeous and wild. I deviated from my usual supernatural/paranormal genre and dove right in to this intense, gritty novel about the dark side of the entertainment industry. The characters are immersed in drugs, casual sex and general narcissism. There’s a drugged out model who’s life is on big “rabbit hole”, a PA whose completely burnt out, an obsessed paparazzi reporter, a jaded starlet who’s dating a male B-list star who can’t keep it in his pants. Billy makes many references to Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland in regards to the character’s lives. The Lust Garden is very much the modern day Wonderland, the rated R version. The main characters for the most part are Vance (male B-list star until he started dating Gianna) and the starlet herself, Gianna. They are gritty, vividly real and very one dimensional. Vance and Gianna are typical hollywood stars. Their decisions are based on what’s best for their career, not for love or happiness. Gianna’s life is very much in danger, unbeknownst to her by a mysterious, murderous stranger with SERIOUS daddy issues. The reason behind his murderous rage against Gianna? Shocking. (No spoilers here, you have to read the book). If you are a fan of hollywood glamour, you will love this fantastically written novel. Billy’s writing style takes a little bit to get used to but once you are a few pages in you will be hooked. I couldn’t put it down. Just a warning, the language and sex can be graphic and explicit. Honestly though, it fits with the story and adds that extra realness to the story.
