#SecondNature Book Tour and Review

Second Nature (Forces of Nature Book 2)

Amelia Hoffman always knew she would be with Nathaniel Peplow forever, but after they bonded everything started to go wrong. Nate treats her like the enemy, her siblings are in danger, and an old threat grows closer. As Nate pulls away and Amelia’s burgeoning friendship with a handsome stranger blossoms, she worries she made the biggest mistake of her life. If sorting out her love life wasn’t enough, a new drug emerges that not only threatens the ones she loves, but seems to be part of something larger than she could ever imagine.  Amelia’s new and old friends must work together to not only save themselves, but the whole world.

from Jen: My Review

I was hooked on this series when I read the first book Natural Selection {my daughter will be reviewing that for you soon}. It is classified a YA (young adult) book but I found it to be a lot more and as I was reading it I almost forgot it was supposed to be a YA book.  The beginning of the first book focused a lot on Amelia’s age, appearance etc.  Normally this would irk me. For some reason it didn’t. The descriptiveness helped me develop a relationship with the characters. Romance talk is minimal and I thought it was appropriate to the age of the characters (otherwise I would not have let my 12 year old read it) in both Natural Selection and Second Nature.

Second Nature picks up where Natural Selection left off. Pretty much everything Amelia was so sure about at the end of the first book has now been blown apart.  Amelia’s  relationship with Nate is unsteady, her life seems unbalanced, her powers as a Gaia are growing  and she meets a new friend who slowly changes her way of thinking.  In Second Nature Amelia’s maturity is evident.  You forget that she is actually supposed to be a 16 year old girl.  She is extremely honest, loyal and a total spitfire (which is a nice way of saying she doesn’t take anything from anybody).  I LOVED LOVED the new characters that are introduced . I LOVED that Amelia is now starting to learn more about what being a Gaia really means and the history behind her race.  I really can not wait until the next book comes out.  This is a new series I can really get into and I love that my daughter can read it with me.  We have had awesome discussions about what we think is next for Amelia and her family!
