Demon
When Justyn and Rebecca set off for the New York School of Performing Arts, they think their dreams are about to come true. To their dismay, they aren’t in high school anymore, and the competition is steep. Rebecca must compete against accomplished singers for a role in the production of Demon Barber, including a stunning Gothic diva with her sights set on Justyn.
It doesn’t help that things keep disappearing from their apartment or that Rebecca’s father refuses to accept that Justyn is an essential part of her life. Yet, all this seems minimal in comparison to the serial rapist terrorizing the campus.
Consumed by fear and obsessed with revenge, Rebecca and Justyn start living the story of Sweeney Todd—both on and off the stage.
My review:
I really like the first book in the series Phantom and I was excited to read Demon. If possible this book was just as good if not better than Phantom. Justyn and Rebecca are headed off to college. I love how the characters have grown and recovered from their experience with Debbie. They move into an apartment together and start college life. Rebecca has grown stronger and has been learning some lessons in witchcraft from Justyn’s mom. Justyn and Rebecca try out for the college play Sweeney Todd and as soon as they are given parts in the play odd things happen. Rebecca’s bird dies, things go missing and Justyn gets a suspicious case of food poisoning along with the majority of the cast. I loved going on another adventure with the couple and to see their relationship strengthen despite constant interference from pretty much every one. Laura fantastically incorporated the play into the story and the horror the kids felt watching the play come to life. There is a twist in the story – just when you think you’ve got it figured out lol you find the book goes in a completely different direction. I am really looking forward to the next book Hyde. I know it’s going to be fantastic.
