We all have that someone we can’t forget, the summer it all began, and the sleepless nights wondering what went wrong.

For Gage Montgomery, that someone is Layla Baxter. When he was 18, he took one look at the chocolate-haired bookworm with porcelain skin and knew his life would never be the same. But it all came crashing down when Layla suddenly and mysteriously disappeared from St. Simons Island — leaving him with nothing but her angel wing pendent around his neck. For 12 long years, Gage couldn’t shake what happened, if he’s the one to blame, wondering where Layla might be. When their paths finally cross, he’s determined to get the answers he’s spent his life searching for — and to get the girl, too. Quiet Angel is a story of hope, survival, and lost love made new again.

“I missed you, too, but you were never far.” Gage touched his shirt with the wings inside. “You were always there.”

My review:

I honestly have no clue how Prescott Lane does it but she makes me love her contemporaries. As a rule when I start to read one I start off automatically hating them and the author either earns my love or I abandon the book half way.

My requirements are: 1. Have a female main character that can stand on her own, 2. Have a male main character that is not perfect, 3. not automatically make me come to the conclusion that there is going to be a definite HEA, 4. have a meaty story, 5. a spunky best friend. If it doesn’t have all of those things, you’ve lost me.

As with her first two books First Position and Perfectly Broken, the author sucked me into the story right off. Layla has a mix of insecure thinking, broken background and slight wishy washy way that makes for an awesome female lead. There are times where you want to scream at her that she’s giving in too quickly and other times where she is letting herself get in her own way. The same can be said for Gage. I loved, loved, loved the beginning of this book. You are treated to Layla and Gage’s backstory. You are given hints that Layla’s life kinda sucks and that Gage is just what she needs. You are left with an empty feeling, kind of what you imagine Gage felt, when it was all ripped away. Fast forward 12 years later and we find both of them grown up with spunky best friends! (Like I said, the book follows all my rules) The two of them are thrown together in a meet-cute and the story skyrockets from there. Family feuds, secrets, illness and political aspirations throw quite a few road bumps in their story but the best part is reading about how they navigate it. There are a few misunderstandings but not in the usual “contemporary” way (read DRAMA with a capital D). It’s more a story of how two teenage lovebirds learn to trust each other and navigate the adult world of dating. I HIGHLY recommend that you take the time to read this book. If you like imperfect characters and some hot scenes….this book is for you. 5 stars from me.
