MARK OF THE WITCH by Jessica Gibson

Magic flows through Jillian Proctor’s veins as surely as blood, but so far her life outside Boston has been peaceful. William Morgan blows into Jilly’s life like a hurricane, unleashing her magic and sending her out of control. Unknowingly, William brings an enemy who only wants to posses the power of the witch. Jilly must learn to harness her magic before she loses it – and everything in her life is destroyed.

My Review:

Since I have been very little I have been obsessed with Salem. It’s my favorite town in the world and I always feel at peace when I am there. I have a strong connection to this book. I lived in New England for 17 years, grew up there and fell in love with it. Boston is a fabulous town, rich with history. Mark of the Witch is a fantastically written story that follows a spirited young witch named Jilly Proctor(LOVE the name but I am biased, it’s my daughter’s name). She is descended from the Proctor witches, a very strong magical line. She is a twin and both twins possess magic but her sister Caroline totally rejects anything to do with magic and leaves home to marry a non-witch after their mother dies. When that marriage fails, Caroline comes back home to stay with Jilly and decides that accepting her families lineage is inevitable. During the time that the girls are learning how to be sisters again, William steps into Jilly’s life. He has ties to her past and her families past that bond them immediately but he brings LOTS of baggage to the table in the form of a women named Sabine. Sabine’s intentions prove deadly and Jilly, William, and Caroline find themselves fighting for their lives, literally.

I absolutely LOVED the plot of this book. The characters are fantastic and believable. I read it in 3 hours. Since I am a bit of a Salem Witches expert I can be a bit protective of them. This book captured the essence of Salem and I felt like I was right there in the book. I was invested on the outcome of the characters and rooting for them to overcome Sabine to get to their happily ever after.
